I've learned a
lot but there are still SO many things I need to learn! I have a lot of classes
to take still. Some things you need to actually experience before you can learn
certain things. Once I actually step out into the Graphic Design field I will
learn a lot. I also need to learn to balance everything. This quarter was my
first time working full-time while going to school full time. I also was
battling Depression this quarter. To make things worse my anxiety was very bad
as well. Luckily, next quarter I won't be working full-time so I'll have more
time for school. Another thing I really have to learn is how to organize. I
have horrible organization skills. This class has taught me a lot of things
about the field and also things I need to learn.
My career path is...
Within 5 years I
can see myself working at a local business as a graphic designer. Most likely
designing their website, local ads, flyers and other similar things. Within 10
years I can see myself maybe doing some free-lance work or working at an ad
agency. Within 20 years I aspire to work for a company where I can design for
magazines. Hopefully big time magazines like Vogue, Seventeen and People: Style
Watch. I've always dreamed of being able to create and design catalogues and
magazines.
My concepts for my top 3 ideas for the Medalist project.
I have many ideas for designs
for this project; however, I'm going to be explaining concepts for the three
main ideas I've chosen. I was thinking of designing a piece with bright shapes
and/or lines and choosing a quote that I thought would best suit the design.
This design is inspired by Bruce Mau. His art like I stated in my previous post
is full of interesting shapes, lines, color and type. I really wanted to
incorporate that into my design. Another design which was also inspired by Mau
is one with a bright and colorful background with swirl shapes. This piece is
full of a few different colors that swirl into one another. I also decided on a
quote by Mau to put on top. I'm a very big fan of typography so a lot of my
pieces usually incorporate text one way or another. For my third design I
decided on something which was inspired by one of my other favorite medalists,
Abbott Miller. I designed something using type. I created a pattern with using
different letters, numbers and color. That was a really fun piece to create.
I am proud of these because...
I am proud of my sketches because I feel they really capture what I got from the artists I chose. I chose Abbott Miller, Bruce Mau and Jennifer Morla. Abbott Miller's work is very abstract and intriguing. He uses lines, shapes and typography to make designs. Bruce Mau's work is similar in the sense that he uses shapes and lines to create art. His art is a bit more vibrant in color. He uses typography in a lot of his pieces. What stood out to me from Jennifer Morla's art was how she incorporated a lot of floral details into her pieces.
So I've made quite a few sketches. Twenty to be exact. Some of them I integrated flowers. Other sketches were vibrant and quirky while some were darker like Mau's pieces. I hope to end with a final piece that incorporates a bit of all 3 but solely is inspired by one medalist.
